The Best AI Tools for Teachers [Part 1]
Discover how these three AI tools can save time, boost student outcomes, and spark creativity in the classroom.
Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is a "branch of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence" (Schroer, 2022).
I know you're thinking: BOR-ING. However, AI is far from boring and can be used in your classroom to save time, improve efficiency, and boost student learning outcomes.
Are you ready to try AI in your classroom?
Although there are hundreds of AI resources available, this post discusses three popular tools teachers can use to incorporate AI in their classrooms:
Grammarly
Otter.ai
Chat GPT
These resources are beginner friendly and can be used by teachers with zero AI experience! Let’s jump in.
Grammarly
Grammarly is an AI-enabled tool that helps people improve communication and become better writers.
Why you should try it: Teachers can use Grammarly to edit their writing, check their tone in an email to parents or admin, and ensure lessons and slides are free of misspelled words and grammatical errors.
How much does it cost? There is a free version and a premium paid version.
Otter.ai
Otter.ai transcribes lectures, meetings, and conversations into written text.
Why you should try it: Teachers can use Otter.ai to create detailed notes from their lessons. This can be an excellent resource for ELL students or your whole class.
Create a free individual account, press record, and let Otter.ai transcribe your lesson. Then, upload the notes to Google Classroom or print them for students to review.
How much does it cost? A free version for individuals allows you to record up to 30 minutes. There is also a paid premium version.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT is an AI language model developed by OpenAI that can generate human-like responses to prompts or questions.
Why you should try it: ChatGPT can create discussion topics, propose ideas for lesson plans, and generate writing prompts. The lesson planning resources can save teachers hours by generating ideas for assessments, tasks, and other activities.
In future posts, we'll dive into ChatGPT prompts for lesson planning in more detail.
How much does it cost? There is a free version with basic capabilities and a paid version.
